In a critical step to enhance Bhutanโs ability to detect and respond to infectious disease threats, the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office has supported procurement of advanced laboratory equipment for the Royal Centre for Disease Control (RCDC), valued at USD 220,216.53 (Nu 19.3 million). This procurement is part of the ongoing Pandemic Fund Project (PFP), with the WHO Country Office serving as the implementing partner.
The new equipment package includes a Human Analysis Duo Analyzer (ELISA system), deep freezer, COโ incubator, PCR cabinet, microprocessor controller, biohazard safety cabinet, refrigerated centrifuge, and a range of other essential tools that will enhance RCDCโs diagnostic capabilities.
The acquisition of these equipment will significantly boost our laboratory capacity to identify respiratory pathogens, zoonotic diseases, and other high-risk infectious threats at an early stage enabling a more rapid and effective response to emerging public health challenges.
This initiative highlights the Ministry’s continued commitment to strengthening health systems, improving preparedness, and ensuring better pandemic response capabilities in the country through the valuable support from WHO and Pandemic Fund.
