SUMMARY:Tendrel Ceremony and Thruesel of New Thermal Scanner System at Paro
  International Airport
DESCRIPTION:\n\nParo\, 25 March 2025 – In a significant step toward stren
gthening Bhutan’s health security and pandemic preparedness\, the Tendre
l Ceremony and Thruesel (purification ritual) for the newly installed Sent
ry MK-4 Thermal Screening System was held at Paro International Airport ye
sterday. The installation of this advanced thermal screening system (Sentr
y MK-4) significantly strengthens health surveillance at points of entry\,
enabling the early detection of travellers with fever- a common symptom o
f infectious diseases like COVID-19\, Ebola\, and Mpox. By identifying pot
ential cases promptly\, the system allows for immediate health assessment
and intervention\, ensuring a rapid and effective response\, particularly
during epidemics and pandemics.\nKey features of the Sentry MK-4 include:\
n\n High Accuracy – Engineered for precise skin temperature measurement
\, the system is\nbacked by a study published in the peer-reviewed journal
(PubMed)\, which found the\nOmnisense ITDS technology (on which the Sentr
 y MK-4 is based) to have the highest\nsensitivity (89.7{6755eef19fcb946ebd
 60360a9bd1036500ab0966145152ad27257b539bca280a}) and strong specificity (9

ng comparable thermal\nscreening devices.\n Fast and Efficient – Capabl
e of rapid mass screening\, the system significantly reduces\nwait times w
hile ensuring seamless passenger flow.\n User-Friendly &amp\;amp\; Portab
le – Designed for ease of operation with minimal training\, the\ndevice
is highly portable\, making it adaptable for deployment at various locatio
ns.\n\nThe ceremony was graced by the Honourable Dasho Dzongda of Paro Dzo
ngkhag\, along with\nthe Offtg. Director of the Department of Public Healt
h (DoPH)\, senior officials from the\nMinistry of Health (MoH)\, Ministry
of Infrastructure and Transport (MOIT)\, Ministry of Home\nAffairs (MOHA)
and representatives from various sectors based at the airport. Their prese
 nce\nunderscored the multi-sectoral commitment to strengthening Bhutan’s
public health security and\nemergency preparedness.\n\nMoH extends its de
ep appreciation to the IHR National Focal Point Network (especially the IH
R NFP of India) for their valuable recommendation\; the Pandemic Fund Proj
ect for their ongoing support\, and WHO Country Office for their assistanc
e in procurement. Special kudos to the dedicated technical team for their
exceptional work in\nassembling and calibrating this sophisticated system.
This initiative reaffirms Bhutan’s commitment to proactive health secur
ity measures\, and adherence to International Health Regulations (IHR) ens
uring robust disease control measures at the country’s busiest point of
 entry.\n\nFor further information\, please contact:\n\nMr. Ugyen Tshering\
