SUMMARY:National Primary Health Care Forum 2026 Opens in Tsirang
DESCRIPTION:The Ministry of Health\, with support from the World Health Org
 anization\, today opened the three-day National Primary Healthcare Forum 2
 026 at the Professional Development Center\, Tsirang. Graced by the Hon’
 ble Health Minister\, Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk\, as Chief Guest\, the Forum 
 brings together District Health Officers\, District Public Health Officers
  and Chief Medical Officers from across the 20 Dzongkhags\, along with hea
 ds and representatives of allied health agencies\, academia\, local govern
 ment and development partners.\n\nDelivering the keynote address\, the Hon
 ’ble Minister said that the next generation of Bhutan’s primary health
 care must be built around five shifts: from treatment to prevention\; from
  facilities to lasting relationships with families and communities\; stron
 g primary care that reduces unnecessary reliance on hospitals\; technology
  that overcomes geographical barriers\; and a whole-of-society approach th
 rough Health in All Policies.\n\n"The question is no longer how to provide
  more healthcare\, but how to create better health-closer to where people 
 live\," Lyonpo said. "No Bhutanese should be denied essential health care 
 because of where they live or what they can afford. That is the promise Un
 iversal Health Coverage - and its foundation is Primary Health."\n\nOver t
 hree days\, participants will deliberate on Bhutan’s roadmap to Universa
 l Health Coverage\, health sector governance under HST 2.0\, the role of l
 ocal governments and communities\, digital health\, the health workforce\,
  traditional medicine\, sustainable health financing\, disease surveillanc
 e and emergency preparedness\, palliative and mental health care\, the ris
 ing burden of non-communicable diseases\, and measuring and regulating the
  quality of primary healthcare. Officials from WHO\, KGUMSB\, JDWNRH\, MoH
 \, the National Medical Services and frontline health workers from Primary
  Health Centres will share their perspectives.\n\n\n\nThe Forum will concl
 ude on 30 September 2026 with a review of key recommendations to guide pol
 icy and programme priorities for making primary healthcare the foundation 
 of Universal Health Coverage in Bhutan.\n\n&nbsp\;
